The CCF sponsors a thesis to develop a new neuron model at the Technical University Munich. The neuron model to be developed has the goal to better capture dendritic properties. Many neuron models are point models, that is they fail to model dendritic and axonal branching. It is an open research question, how to model these morphological properties, and what they contribute to the computational power of the neuron. A major approach is to use the cable properties of the neural branches, but since ion channel distribution and efficacy is under neuromodulatory control, these approaches are questionable. Here we will attempt to use the intuition of the neural dendrite as a Boolean tree and assume that the neuron can be effectively modeled as a Boolean function.
