We have onboarded another scholar, Osman Musa, a postdoctoral researcher at TU Berlin. His work focuses on developing realistic neuronal implementations that will ultimately incorporate neuromodulation and internal plasticity. In most computational neuroscience models, these biologically attested mechanisms are either ignored or treated as optional add-ons rather than integral components. However, all biological neural systems, starting with Aplysia and C. elegans or Drosophila, use neuromodulation as a core feature, and always the whole neuron is involved in adaptation, which includes internal plasticity. We are testing theories on how best to re-imagine and re-implement neural systems under these considerations.
